    Top quilt = done...finally

    F7853603-FDB4-4E89-810E-B70038D29573.jpeg

I decided I wanted a 40* quilt set to compliment the 20* set I made last year, so I sold a 0* quilt that I didn’t need so I could pay for the supplies. Top quilt has finally made it through the sewing machine unscathed...well, relatively. Thanks to my idiot move to start out with the wrong thread, the stitching is a mixture of black and gray, and some of the seams have a nice “wavy” vibe. As long as it holds together, I’ll consider it an overall success.

Made with Argon 49, inside and out, in forest green and charcoal gray. 1” baffles made from leftover Argon (3 are 0.5oz noseeum). Stuffed with around 7.5oz of 850FP down from Loose Goose Down Supply, so it lofts to 1.5”-2”. Weighs 11.25oz, so that saves me 5oz of pack weight for trips above freezing.

Now I just have to finish the UQ...

Looking real good! I was wondering after you mentioned some sewing troubles. I don't think I'll ever be up for a quilt.

Nice job! I’m still doing smaller projects for now to get used to the sewing machine. Not sure I’ll ever be able to or have the patience to try doing a down quilt...

Thank you! I posted pics of the last TQ I made, since it was the first thing I felt was good enough to show off. I wasn’t planning to post this one, but so many people contributed their tips and advice, and without all of it, I’d probably have another sewing machine and more fabric on order right now. All of you guys really saved this one from the scrap heap, so I thought I’d let everyone see how it turned out.

OneClick and Tigglet, I said the same thing a year ago when I bought this crappy machine, and if I’d had the money to order them already made, I would have. The construction process really wasn’t as hard I’d thought it would be - even to a sewing newb like me. The last quilt I made, I had to order more fabric and start over, which sucked. I could’ve made it work, I think, but I decided it was worth another $30-$40 to start over. My biggest problem is that I’m a lazy measurer and like to “eyeball it,” even though I know I shouldn’t. Straight lines and following seam allowances are the hard parts, for me!

That quilt looks fantastic! Really nice job on that. Pretty good on the weight savings too.

Thanks! It reminds me of that movie, Clueless, when the girl talks about someone looking okay from a distance and a big mess up close But if it stays together, I don’t mind! Definitely excited about the weight savings - that’s what made me decide I could carry around less quilt.

Thanks! I sat down a little while ago to sew the underquilt baffles onto the second shell...realized I’d spent two days of measuring last week and drew them all on in the wrong direction. *Face palm.* Frustrating, but glad I caught it before I started sewing. Fingers crossed that this one turns out okay too! Lol
