Ok, after some fiddling, cussing, and nearly throwing the thing out of the window, I think I’ve got it straightened out. At the very least, the loops have disappeared. I think it was a combination of bobbin tension and the fabric not appreciating the thread. It seems to like the Tera 80, which really sucks, because it’s almost gone. I’ll have to go to Joann’s for some sew all tomorrow. Looks like the two full spools of Mara 70 I have aren’t gonna cut it this time.

It looks like you're sewing a quilt. Mara 70 is complete overkill for quilts. You only need a thread this strong for applications where there is a lot of load on the seams, for example channel end hammocks where the suspension will go through the channel. I use Sew-All (which is Mara 100) for quilts, which is plenty strong for this purpose and sews much nicer, especially with thin fabrics.

Yeah, I guess I figured that out the hard way. I thought I still had some Sew All, but I’d forgotten that I’d used it all, and I had some Tera 80, but not much. I started using the Mara 70 because I had it, and I didn’t think it would be a problem...lesson learned!

And thank you for a few examples - I think I’ve got needle size down (thinner fabric, smaller needle), but I’m still sorting out which thread to use for which project. I’ll finish the quilt with Sew-All, since I can buy that today instead of having to order online.
