Seam Grip Sil or Seam Grip WP

    I am SOOOO confused.

    I have this material: https://ripstopbytheroll.com/product...-ripstop-nylon

And I need to patch it, so which do I use? I asked RSBTR and they said Seam Grip. Did not specify which.

The inside is shiny, so that's the PU side. And should I patch the inside or outside? Same sealant for both sides?

    Not the Sil.

It got more confusing recently when Gear Aid changed the names.

They used to be called Sil-Net and Seam Grip.

Some sellers still show the old product so it really got confusing.

    Thanks for clearing that up!

OK finally getting around to doing this.

I understand I patch the inside of the tent, the urethane coating side.

Do I flip the patch material around so like sides are touching?

Yes! Same sides together so the "glue" will stick!

I got a few different answers asking manufacturers/fabric retailers. So I just don't know. Here's what I got. The round patch is the same material, shiny side up shown here (PU coating). The shiny side is what is also INSIDE of the tent. The outside of tent is shown here with the burn hole. So patch inside? Like sides together? Outside, opposite sides? Something else?

OneClick - I noticed that you did a great job of matching the fabric color; that’s a feature or a bug. I like contrasting colors - sort of a badge of adventure. If I do something like spike a hole in my gaiters with a crampon tooth, I want it sewn up with something like red thread on the black gaiter material. Same goes for an hot ember hole or thorn grab on a jacket sleeve. Those contrasting colors can inspire a story around the campfire and be a visual reminder of events that required more attention.

In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Personally, I would keep all the shiny sides facing the same way (inward), and although this is a small hole, I would probably do two patches, one inside and one outside, kind of a sandwich. It may be more than necessary, but I like to be sure.

That's what I'd like to do. Any idea on using the Seamgrip WP vs Sil? It's not silnylon, so I would guess that's out, but the PU coating is inside. I'm just so confused on what to do. I would rather leave the hole opposed to getting sticky goo all over that may not even stick.

Best bet is to put like sides together. In this case put the two shiny sides together (PU sides) and use Seam Grip WP or, if it's the old stock, just plain Seam Grip. You don't want Sil version for this material.
