from Tensa: "If your current trekking poles weigh 20oz (567g), the additional weight is only 2.9lbs (1320g)."
"only" 2.9lbs? I think it'd be more appropriate to say "A WHOPPPING" 2.9lbs
I watched Shug's video again last night and I actually already carry most of the items he mentions... I'll try out his method later this week, once it stops raining outside.
In the meantime: Thanks for the comments so far, and I welcome more ideas...
I've hung off dead trees without problems before.
I've also pushed over dead trees with my bare hands that had a 2-foot diameter. They were basically balancing on top of the earth.
... The dead tree i hung off was the one next to the one i pushed over. o_O
My sentiments, exactly. I think the lightest DIY stand I’ve seen was around 2lbs - and it might’ve only been for one pole. I can’t remember. I’ve spent $200 to lose some ounces, not to gain over 2lbs! Like TallPaul, I’d rather carry an Uberlite for backup, or make due with my foot pad and backpack...or keep walking.
