Planning trip along coast WA and CA

    Folks,

My wife and I are planning a trip from Seattle south along 101. We’ve never explored CA coastal campgrounds so we are looking forward to that.

She’s not much for backpacking roughing it, so we’ll mostly be car camping at parks pulling a teardrop with the Subaru. I get claustrophobic so I’ll be hammock it with trees where I can and my new Tensa4! Lovely device.

So, considering my plans, what are the ‘Don’t miss it’ spots. Planning on 10 days or so.

    Thanks.

Are you skipping the Oregon coast?

WA - Long Beach and Cape Disappointment State Park, stop and do the short hikes to the light houses.

OR - Canon Beach, you can't drive down the coast without stopping there.
    OR - Tillamook Cheese Factory
OR - Thor's Well, there's a campground here called the Cape Perpetua Campground, U.S. 101, Yachats, OR that's a nice place to camp.
CA - Trees of Mystery in the Redwoods, 15500 US-101, Klamath, CA 95548
CA - Elk Prairie Campground, in the Redwoods, fantastic little campground close to short hiking trails that go to Giant Redwoods.
CA - Drive Thru Tree Park, 67402 Drive Thru Tree Rd, Leggett, CA 95585, Private little park where you can drive thru a redwood tree, I think it was $5 to go in.
This is where HWY 1 starts, Leggget, CA. This is the most amazing road out to the coastline. You can drive down to the Golden Gate Bridge along the coast.
CA - Russian Gulch State Park had some amazing views.
CA - Salt Point State Park is a great spot to stop and camp before getting to San Francisco. The Woodside Campground is right there and was a nice place to stay for the one night I was there.
CA - Sonoma Coast State Park has some incredible views and some light hiking trails.

I can go on, I road tripped down the coast on my motorcycle in 2019 so you can easily get on google maps and zoom in on the coast and move down it looking for beaches, overlooks, and light houses.

I'll add a few you might want to consider.

OR - Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville. It would bring you back inland a bit, but worth it if you're even remotely interested in aviation or even just to see the Spruce Goose in person.

OR - Depoe Bay for whale watching.

    OR - Sea Lion Caves.

OR - sand dunes in southern parts

Will you be heading straight to the coast, bypassing the Olympic Peninsula or taking that in as well? If the latter, are you familiar with that area?

I could also add a few to the list if you are going to drive the Olympic Peninsula, I'm right on the hood canal here on the Kitsap Peninsula and that drive could be a fantastic couple of days to start off the trip.
