Weathering a storm in a DIY hammock stand

Had another Trail Life Scouts campout with my sons this past weekend near Lynchburg, TN. With a couple hundred people expected and assigned camping areas in a large field, stands were required for anyone that wanted to use hammocks. I got in my first outdoor test of my homemade tensahedron stand. Mine is very similar to Mike Jone's build from this link: https://www.tensaoutdoor.com/make-yo...ahedron-stand/

We got quite a bit of rain Friday night, starting around 1am, with pretty significant wind as well. I was set up so the wind was directly into the tarp. I was a bit concerned about the tarp getting damaged by rubbing against the stand at any point, but it seemed to do fine. We managed to dodge the worst of the thunderstorms on Saturday, though we had some pretty sizeable downpours followed by an amazing rainbow. The wind shifted by about 90degrees on Saturday night, but there was no rain, and my underquilt protector helped block most of the wind coming through the tarp. All in all, another lovely weekend of camping!

Wow Doc, beautiful rainbow picture stretching over that mountain (hill?)! I bet that was a real treat for you and all the boys to witness after the storm

Definitely more of a hill over there. And yes, the rainbow was glorious. The picture really doesn't do it justice. We had a full arc all the way to the ground in both directions. The secondary bow was as vibrant and bright as I've ever seen, and there were even higher order rainbow bands on the inside of the primary that were showing up.

Overall, it was a great campout. The worst of the rain we experienced was while we were in our sleeping bags, and the heavy thunder cells and potential hailstorms all missed us.
