I have been surprised at how many members sleep the majority of nights in a hammock. Plenty that have never even camped in them.

I had back problems sleeping in a tent with my wrecked back. I was ready to give up camping altogether when a friend suggested a camping hammock. He pointed me to "Just Jeff's" hammock camping page and a local outlet store that had the fabric for $1 per yard. I built my hammock and slept like a rock! 13 years later, I hung at the 2021 Spring MAHHA group event in that very same hammock. I ordered a Dutch Chameleon and winter tarp two days ago. It's great for some, not so much for others... You'll just have to try it and see if it is for you.

I’ve been sleeping every night in a hammock for the last 5 years. I always had issues with my back, but I seldom do anymore. Now, when I get back pain, I can almost always point to a certain activity that caused it. Before, I would wake up with a hurt back for no reason that I could explain.

I sleep in a gathered end hammock, either side, on my back, head left or head right..... it doesn’t seem to matter. I wake up refreshed and without pain. The bonus is that when I camp, I have the same setup as I do at home so there is no read adjustment.

    My back loves my hammock.

Are hammocks camping bad for the back?

I get my best night's sleep in my WBRR.

I've been lucky enough to never suffer from back problems, but I do get sore hips and shoulders as a side sleeper on the ground using even cushy ground pads. Never anything bad enough to keep me from camping and hiking but noticeable.

When I sleep in my hammock though its like sleeping on a cloud. I actually look forward to nights outside in my hammock when I'm at home in my comfy bed! Nothing beats a good hammock setup for me.

Of course its all personal preference, just have to go and try for yourself.

I am 67 and my back always feel better after a couple of days in one of my hammocks. Unfortunately it rarely feels good enough to be able to put socks on.

My first hammock camping trip I set out for 4 nights with an aching back. By the second night I knew that my hammock effortlessly was able to do what countless chiropractors never could - felt like million bucks!

Same here. I’ve got a couple of bulging discs, facet arthritis, and a little scoliosis, and I was amazed at how much better I felt after sleeping in a hammock. Sleeping in one full time ever since.
