When State Park camping my wife and I use a 11.5' version of the DIY Batwing with pole mods (either single or double mods work well) and a spreader bar. Because the tree straps are so wide at the head end and because the spreader bar makes a giant arc when one person gets out the tarp is limited by how low and tight it can be hung sacrificing storm protection. Like someone said, the doors kinda work....I would even say they don't work on the head end with a spreader. If it rains I just pin them out straight for more side coverage and do the rain coat trick on the hammock.
But when we are really backpacking is when we show each other that we really love each other. No spreader, no separate trees. Just 2 hammocks right next to each other and a 12' HG Palace. You really need to like the person you are with because you are spooning all night. But I will say once you find your comfy spot you sleep great, just like in bed at home. An added benefit is that I can take 20F colder quilts because we are so close. I can also button up the tarp if I need to when the weather turns bad.
