I own the Ridgerunner, the Banyan and the REI. The REI is an interesting design but WAY too short to get a diagonal lay. I use it for kids to hang in. The Banyan and Ridgerunner are very very similar in their design and lay. The major difference for me that makes the difference is the dual ridgeline in the Banyan. Like you, I have also noticed that the ridgelines appear to be slightly too long to get a taught pitch with the right hang angle. I had not considered using the carabiner trick from Shug to tighten the ridgelines and may have to try that on my next hang. Maybe there's another strategy I haven't considered but that seems like a decent enough solution. I really like both the Ridgerunner and the Banyan, but until I can solve the ridgeline problem on the Banyan, the Ridgerunner is what I'll be using more often.

Iceman, yes, the carabiner trick works great. It makes adjustment quick and easy. If you have them inside the bug net it also gives you a quick place to hang things like a headlamp, keys, ect. and because of the wraps around the biner it’s like a prussick and won’t move once there is tension on the ridge lines. I found some very small light weight biners so I guess I should just leave it that way.

I’m confused with the diagonal lay of the REI you discribe. Is yours a GE? I am referring to their bridge hammock. I don’t think they make it anymore. It has some interesting features but it is heavy and bulky and I’m no gram weenie. Haha

    The carabiner trick is simple.

Before getting into the hammock (while the RL is slack)
    1. Clip the minibiner onto the ridge line.
    2. Wrap the ridge line around the non-gate side a few wraps. You have to pass the line through the gate to do this.
    3. Get in and test the tension. Shouldn’t be too tight.

If it’s confusing, picture the biner without the gate on. Then picture just wrapping the RL around it a few times.

Oh yeah, added bonus is you can use the biner to clip things onto like a small light.

What Hangandy said. If you need a video version to have it make sense visually, here's a link to Shug's YouTube video where he covered it: https://youtu.be/Gq7fDjH90MU?t=360

Got my double layer Banyan in the mail a few days ago. Thought I’d post a few pictures of it. I’ve only slept in it twice so far, both of which were inside my house. My room is admittedly a little too close for a bridge hammock; with an ideal tree setup I’d be able to stretch it out even flatter. Nevertheless, my early first impressions are that it will work out better for me compared to my GE.

I also wanted to make a post encase anyone else in a situation like me is curious about this. I ordered a double layer because I want(ed) to use a pad in it. I’ve been having issues with my shoulders this past year and so a pad for my shoulder to sink into a little takes some pressure off. I was concerned if I would notice/benefit from the pad between the two layers, or if I’d have to lay on the pad directly. I’ve borrowed another bridge hammock from a friend and I didn’t find much benefit from the pad between that other hammock’s 2 layers. In the case of the banyan, I definitely notice and sink into the pad when it’s between the two layers so if you’re a pad user I would say based off brief experience that the second layer is worth it. In two of the pictures below you’ll notice the pad quite readily.

Lastly, I decided to go fancy and got mine in the print2fabric option and I think it turned out pretty snazzy.

So that's what it's going to look like when I'm being cremated...

Nice warm & fuzzy feeling in a snowscape though. Funky print.
Mountain views are good for the soul....& getting to them is good for my waistline.

    Haha.

Initially I was going to go with the brick red but ended up looking through all the patterns and thought the fire could be cool. This flame print is mostly red and red oranges and looks nice. Relaxing at the campfire is probably my favorite part about going camping/backpacking.

Would you say 14' is really the minimum distance?
Outside I don't care, but I currently sleep in my hammock at home too, and I have 12' wall to wall. I could hang corner to corner, but I don't want to.
That 14' is what has prevented me from ordering one, but I'd really like to try a bridge.
