Originally had this planned for next week with my brother but he injured his leg and rain looks to be in the forecast for next week. Really wanted to get across Spence Ridge so I went a week early hoping water levels were passable. Left work on Friday and headed up to Wolf Pit Trail Head. Got a late start at 5pm and did ~5.5 miles to just short of the Chimneys. Made camp in the dark at one of the gaps and then did 11 miles day 2 to camp at the river near Daffodil Flats. Finished today with a 6+ mile trip along the Lead Mine Trail and MST to get about 23 miles total on the loop. Kicked my butt and reminded me I’m not as young as I once was. Hoping to do this again in the fall when time allows me to slow down and enjoy the scenery. Definitely a special place. April with the wild flowers in bloom is beautiful up there. Rangers/trail crew had recently cut a lot of downfall along the river trail which helped, they also recently re-cut a significant portion of the Lead Mine Trail. But the start of that one plus the MST from the river to the Wolf Pit Trail are crazy straight up the ridge with no switch backs. Painful.
Getting better at setting up my hammock but still tweaking my sleep system. Appreciate all the support/tips from various forum members. It’s definitely a different experience than my years in a tent.
