The kit worked out well. I really liked the Darien and the Thunderfly. I also picked-up a 3 season Golite quilt from another forum that came in clutch when temps dipped into the low 40s. Still trying to get the 3/4 UQ to lay correctly on the asymm. Shortening the far right shock cord suspension at the foot end forces it to run taught against my calves and I don’t have the option to let it ride over the top due to the integrated bug net. I’ll keep tweaking until I get it right since I appreciate the added space savings in my pack.

I have one of the 40* GoLite top quilts and that thing is warm. Not sure what temp you got but those things keep ya warm. But it’s a bit heavy - my 40 weighs more than a newer HG 20* so I don’t use it very often anymore.

It’s the 20* 800 fill version - 24 oz so about the same weight as the Hammock Gear Economy 20*. Heavier than the cottage maker premium quilts due to the shell material but it offered me a less expensive intro to trying quilts.

Mine is older - 650 fill. Weighs the same as your 20*

I usually do the loop clockwise because of the climb up to the Chimney's and the climb up Lead Mine from the LGT (and, i guess, the climb up Shortoff from the river). Especially in the summer, going up from Chimney Gap is mostly exposed to the blazing sun. I do feel the pain going up Little Table Rock going clockwise, but for some reason it doesn't bother me as much as Chimney Gap. Anyways, always a fun loop and lots of ways to switch it up.

I thought about doing it clockwise after after experiencing those three climb sections. Saw a few other solo packers going the opposite direction as me. The LGT probably isn’t dramatically different due to all the ups and downs along the ravines, but moving north upstream mentally feels like going up hill. Seems like this loop is best in spring or fall when temps/humidity is more tolerable. The MST hike from the river up Shortoff is all sun and it feels like an arid microclimate compared to other parts of the gorge. Not surprising that’s where the burn was most intense given all the dry grass and pines.
