I can definitely see tenting in Congaree during heat/bug season not being a good time!
Thanks for linking those, that is helpful info for anyone who might want to visit Congaree. I did check the gauges through the NPS site before heading out. It was tough for me to line up the water levels with what was actually going to be on the ground. Even looking back now I'm not clear what I should be really taking away from the gauge levels.
According to the NPS site (linked below), flood stage for Cedar Creek is 8 ft and for Congaree River is 15 ft. I was there Dec 27-29 2020. The gauge readings for those 3 days were ~7', 7.5' & 7' for Cedar and ~14.5', 13' & 12' for Congaree. The last time that Cedar was >8' was Dec 6 and for Congaree >15' was Dec 4. All this to say, I don't know why the trails were flooded and not sure what I can take away from the gauges on a future visit.
