    West Prong GSMNP

I had to get out on Good Friday! We were in the 80's for the first time this year and Spring is coming on strong now. West Prong is a short 2.7mi trail that connects Tremont with Bote Mt trail heading up to Spence Field and Thunderhead Mt. 2mi into the trail is backcountry campsite #18, by far the nicest campsite I've seen in the park. It has several individual sites that can't be seen by others and is divided by West Prong flowing through it. There are several small streams flowing into the prong at the site and another big plus is no reservations are needed for it.

The windflower's are beginning to put on their show. Here is Bloodroot. Its root sap was used for dye.

Home for the night. I used my Mt Wash 4 underquilt for the first time I hung it lose with nighttime temps only in the 50's and a Marmot 40*F down bag as a top quilt and stayed toasty wearing only shorts.

    Sunrise the day before Easter.

I am now officially jealous!!!!! That is a beauty of a campsite and not to far to travel. Plan on getting back up that way sometime in the future.
