I have it on good authority that trout are allergic to both 5G and blazed trails.

I do quick or nighters all the time. Just did one Friday night. Usually have one of the kids drop me off, do 20 or so miles and get scooped up the next day. And all this 15 mins from the hacienda. It’s the equivalent of an afternoon nap. A quick recharge.

You can do a new format for your videos.

You can have your daughter driving while you're hanging off the back. Bean trotting along with the camera.

My local gear proving grounds is a local school yard that has two perfectly spaced trees and a set of log benches that school children built as a class project. I pedaled over to the field to test some new stove components and take a load off for a few minutes.

Nice! How did the stove work out?

Here’s mine. Back yard hang. Also tested a new UL headlamp diffuser made from a toothpaste cap. Weighs in at 3 grams for you
UL weanies. Now time to switch out the headband for some shock cord.

Stove is fine, better made than my cat cans, and more efficient. Brought 8 ounces of water to a boil in just over 3:30 with about 15 ml fuel. I have to sort out the wind screen and get a new lid, the plastic one is poorly designed; you really have to wrench it off the top of the pot.

The majority of my trips are pretty quick. I work at a place where the scheduling flexibility is unparalleled, so every couple of months I’ll “request off” for a week or three for something longer. I just tell my boss, “Aww, don’t make me feel irreplaceable NOW!” Hey, it’s worked for me so far...

But, generally speaking, it’s financially irresponsible for me to do it TOO often - I get paid by the hour, after all. So asking for 3 days off, instead of the usual two is usually more practical. Otherwise, it’s an overnight for me. Finished hiking the 1st 2 miles of the OT in Oklahoma over my 2 days off last month.

In Little Rock, I’m 1-1.5hrs away from one national forest and 2hrs from another, so not too bad. I left for Eagle Rock Loop after work on Sunday, started hiking by lunch on Monday, and made it back in time for work Thursday morning. Gets tough trying to plan adventures, but well worth it. No matter how long I get to spend, it lets me try stuff out and decompress.
