Finally made it to Butte, MT and back on the official CDT. The Big Sky alternate was awesome we started in West Yellowstone and then traveled through Big Sky, Ennis, Whitehall and finally to reconnect to the CDT. I have about 500 miles left and it should be a little over a month.

    Happy Trails!

Left Butte, stopped in the capital Helena to wait on a resupply box over the Labor Day weekend and now have made my way to Lincoln, MT after a guy gave my group a ride down the hill in his horse trailer.

Have less than 300 miles to . Enjoy a few pics and hope you all are doing well!

    Wow, almost there!

Congrats on the accomplishment, and thanks for taking us along. It has been so interesting following your journey and watching the landscape change during your trip.

Made it to Augusta, MT. Got the end Benchmark trailhead at 1pm it’s about 45 mins away from town and is a notoriously hard hitch. We got super lucky and some hikers coming in from a trip have us a ride to town. I have a little more than 200 miles left to the border. Saw a good size black and will go back to the trail soon to head into the Bob Marshall Wilderness commonly referred to as the Bob.

Those are some beautiful sunsets Twospeed. Almost poetic as if to say the sun was setting on this trip? I kid cause we all know that every ending is not the end, but rather a new beginning. Or something along those lines. Keep on keeping on.

Still a few weeks left of the journey but the chapter is certainly coming to an end.

I would like to hear your perspective about how such a long journey with so much time in the hills changes your outlook (or maybe it doesn't?) when you get back to 'civilization' and working life.

The longest I've been out in the last few years is a week, which I do only 2 or 3 times per year, and I resent having to go home because I'm just starting to get a bit of trail fitness and don't want it to end.

In my opinion once you taste the level of freedom I feel being a transient for 4-6 months your life will be ruined for the good and you will want to be back on a long trail every spring from now until you die. The fitness aspect is pretty outweighed by the freedom from the rat race experience for me.

However it’s a different experience for everyone.
