You’re doing great, Two Speed. Keep on keepin’ on. I heard the Big Sky alternate was really the only way to keep ‘er moving this year due to the fires.

Hi! This is how I set it up based on what I gathered talking to Chop about it. There are probably tons of stuff that can be interchanged but this set up has worked great for me for about 1000 miles.

For example you can use zing it for the ridgeline if you have it handy already.

Folks are taking the official route but it involves a pretty long road walk which doesn’t interest me at all

Made it to Big Sky and took a side quest to Bozeman to meet a friend and go to REI. The alternate route has included seeing red canyon, going up Buckman ridge and getting to see the Spynx and some cool waterfalls. Next stop Ennis, MT.

Two Speed, have you got up in morning, broke camp and hiked back down trail in wrong direction??? And if you did, how long before the trail began to look mighty familiar???

I’ve asked this same question to another AT through hiker. He said, yes, it wasn’t long before he noticed a sense of dejavu.

About what weight was the heaviest through hiker, you met. I’d imagine they dropped a few pounds from beginning to end of through hike.

Hope you are keeping your weight steady amidst all your miles, elevation changes (mountainous hills), and weather surprises.

About what weight ranges is your fully loaded pack??

    Good luck Two Speed

It certainly is. Didn’t expect quite the scenery I’ve found in Wyoming and Southern Montana but I hear it only gets better.

Yes I’ve gotten miss directed many times. I usually catch it quickly with a quick check of my phone on my map or such. Just the other day I got lost in the dark in the morning after my morning constitutional while looking for my food bag, luckily my hiking partner was also searching for her food bag and pointed me back to the camp site so I could eat my pop tarts in minor shame.

Not sure on exact weight but I have seen people drop 30-40lbs over the course of a hike.

Not sure about my weight. My hunger is fairly controlled with playing some catch up in town.

My pack normally floats between 25-30 lbs fully loaded and occasionally gets a little higher if there is a large water carry involved. As it get over 30 it becomes very uncomfortable for the pack I use.
