    Chameleon hexon 1.0 issue

    Hi everyone,

On a trip yesterday my wife noticed something on her chameleon and asked me to look at it. It is a Hexon 1.0 with about 20-30 nights max. It is somewhere around two years old and she is well below the limit. She is a really small woman at 5'2" and runs 98-102lbs. I have never had a single hammock wear like this. We take extremely good care of our stuff and I was kind of shocked. Is this normal for the Hexon 1.0 fabric? Any ideas on what could have caused it? We store it in it's stuff sack, like all my hammocks. Thought about calling Dutchware, but don't really want to complain if this is somewhat normal.

There's a reason I gave up on 1.0 and 1.1 oz. hammock fabrics - I like to call them disposable hammocks. Now, they have even lighter hammocks, which I would never go near. Personally, I won't go near any hammock unless it's at least 1.6 oz. There are other places you can reduce weight, but if your hammock gives out on you, you're ground bound! That's something I never want to do.

Maybe during the night while hanging? It is stored hanging by the stuff sacks on a bedroom wall so it would need some suction cup feet to scale the wall during storage.

Yep, I agree with Shug. Some little critter had it's way with it. Maybe something tasty on her hands got rubbed off there and made it enticing to rodents.....

I have to agree. The way the fabric is torn with small puncture holes looks like a small rodent got to it.

I have seen mice running up trees like they were on the ground.

But it could also be chewed by other animals. I have had problems with field crickets. They try to eat a lot of stuff: carpet, clothes, cardboard, paper, plastic and more. They have even less problems with scaling walls than mice do.

It’s never fun to find a hole in your gear. Nothing a patch couldn’t fix though.

Agree with the other commenters, seems like a rodent and not a fabric issue. Nice are surprisingly agile when they want to be. I’ve had holes chewed in stuff sacks hanging in trees I would’ve never thought could be assailed.

I was recently dumped hard onto the ground from my outdoor hammock. It’s in a covered area and hangs all year - it’s been there probably 3 years. Once I picked myself up I discovered that something had gnawed on my suspension and the hammock attachment which is where it failed. The way it was frayed I almost think it was a bird gathering nest material - it’s a cotton blend hammock.

Anyhow, best to check it all out occasionally.

    Good luck!
