Ok, somebody help me think this through. I am 5'10" and very interested in the Draumr UL. I see the pad length is 78 inches. That being the case logic tells me that being 5'10" or even 6 feet should be fine. Assuming you don't sleep with your arms above your head there should be plenty of room. What am I missing here? Thanks, maybe I am just having constant senior moments but I just can't get it.

I'm a couple of inches shorter than you and there are times I feel like it's too short (it isn't, but it feels that way). Keep in mind that although the pad may be 78 inches, the cloth at the head and foot folds slightly back toward you.

This was my thought, the ends of the hammock do not go up like a straight wall, in videos they look to be more "C" shaped and would thus curve back over your head (and feet). At 5' 11" I'm fearful this fabric would be uncomfortably close to my head. Not to mention the top of my pillow is usually a few inches above my head not level with the top of it so I'm assuming I'll need room for that as well. I'm so close to the regular height cut off I'm leaning towards too much space being better than too little.

I'm an inch or two taller than you, and I have no problem with the standard length Draumr UL. As you said, the 78" pad should tell you something. I am using the aluminum pole set to extend the head and foot ends, so that may make a difference. It's not at all like the old Draumr 3.0, that kind of draped in your face. I also didn't want the extra weight and bulk of the XL, along with its pad.

I have over 20 nights in this, and find it growing on me. At first I was concerned about it being trickier to enter and a little tippy, but I am getting the feel of it now. Very comfortable and well designed. Almost on par with my Hammock Tent Gamma UL. Almost...

I’m 5’10”, I have the draumr UL, and have also owned the draumr 4.0 standard and draumr 4.0 XL. I prefer the fit/comfort of the standard length and love the weight reduction with the 5.0 UL. If you are concerned, start with the UL and try it out within the return period. Send it back for the XL if you don’t think you fit.
That’s what I did with the 4.0. Started with standard, thought I could use the additional length of the XL so got it, then found out I prefer the lay of the standard and by that point, they came out with the UL and it was a perfect fit for my needs!

Greetings from Vancouver Island! New Draumr 5 XL user here (also new to the forums!), yes I've drank the Amok koolaid I just want to chime in on the sizing conversation. I'm 5'11" and find the XL version to be a good fit. I'm about 230 lbs. so appreciate the larger Draumr. I believe height is only part of the equation, heavier hangers might find the XL a better fit!

Had my first night sleep in the Draumr, gotta say I slept like a baby. I really like to be able to "trim" the head and knees to dial in your position. I'm trying to sleep on my back more which I find easy to do in the Draumr. I ended up with the drunken camo, I don't usually go for camo but this pattern appeals to me!

We're the lucky few. Luke figured out the best setup for sure.

Thanks so much for posting your thoughts. I'm on the fence with the Draumr (I'm leaning more towards the UL version). I am also 5' 11" so it's good to read your comments on the XL being a good fit. What other hammock systems have you slept in? I have a Warbonnet Ridge Runner and Blackbird XLC that I'm "mostly" happy with, however, I'm looking for something that will allow me to sleep on my side/stomach more comfortably. I also try to sleep on my back but most mornings find myself on my side or stomach and with the Ridge Runner or Blackbird my back can get a little sore. Did you try side or stomach sleeping while in your Draumr and if so, was it comfortable? Was there any stress in your lower back or is the sleeping platform pretty stable?

    Thanks!

After much research, here's what I thought the best combo would be for my size and use (which I bought and is now for sale):
Draumr 5.0 xl, UL pad, UL tarp. I knew I'd likely never be able to find a used draumr or even find a friend with one to try, so I went all in.
After borrowing an xlc and spending three nights each in the draumr and blackbird xlc, at this juncture I prefer the xlc.
I really enjoyed the flat lay in the draumr, but didn't like the exit/entry. Once I was on my side and settled, it was incredibly comfortable. Getting in and out was annoying enough to be comical at first, but it would no doubt become second nature in time.
I think for wind protection, etc. the regular seems better than the ultralight, but I saw no reason to go with anything but the UL pad and UL tarp. For my size, 6'1, the xl seems like the right fit.
In the for sale section, I've got my used three night draumr, pad and tarp up for sale. I did stupidly put a small hole in the bugnet near the foot end of the hammock (middle of the night the bug mesh, which wasn't fullly zipped shut and got caught in my sleeping bag zipper), but it's a full kit ready to go. Anyway, i knocked $100 off the hammock price for that hole. If I can't sell it, I liked it enough to use for the forseable future...

I have an ENO double eagles nest but haven't slept in it. What brought me to the Draumr was the many videos on YouTube with taller and larger folks having a great night's sleep. I have wide shoulders so the XL is a good fit for me. The regular version does seem to hold more weight than the UL version, another consideration for larger folks, Amok website says 396 lbs for the regular and 264 lbs for the UL.

Agree with tom-o, the Draumr can be tricky to get into, though I am getting better at it, it is quite easy to get out of. I have watched Timbul's videos and it looks like he's solved the sleeping bag falling out of the hammock issue with a piece of shock cord holding the bag from falling out, will give this a try. I also secure my water bottle at the head end as ballast so the Draumr doesn't tip forward as it likes to do.

I'll be taking it on a canoe trip for a couple of nights, hopefully get some more pics and vids of my setup.
