    Sundown NP...Oz

Out n about again, spur of the moment trip, fitted a new knobby front tyre to my motorcycle so had to go for a long ride to test it out.
This time to Sundown National Park...via as many dirt back roads as I could find.

    7hours later...
Arrived just before dusk, quick look around to get the lie of the land, before setting up in the dying light, under headlamp.

Remote & usually bone dry, recent rain changed that.

Biggest freshwater mussels I've found so far.

The Bone yard....I'm guessing an owl or bird of prey eats it's victims here.

Edible but invasive Prickly Pear...lots o' seeds, very little pulp, tastes a bit like watermelon & watch out for their fine tiny spikes !

It was hot work hopping & scrambling up a small side creek, so I made time for a cooling wilderness jacuzzi...I didn't want to get out.

You can burn those hairs off. A green stick folded like tongs, hold them in the flames a bit . . . we do the same w/ green chilis. Roast em till the skins come loose.

    Beautiful little canyon.

How are the temps there now that it's (close to?) fall?

March is the start of Autumn here in Australia & it's already dropped 5 -10°c where I live in South East Queensland.

Night time temps are borderline for my lightly insulated summer hammock atm, so I will change over to my insulated cool season hammock from now on. That's good down to 0°c.

Out west, rugged & dry Isla Gorge & Auburn River NP's, where I plan to disappear for a few days of walking are cooling down quickly too. Highs hovering around 37/38°c are now down to 29/30°c....another month or two & they should drop around 20°c daytime, 5/10°c at night. Maybe the occasional frost. Perfect time a hammock trip. Won't be long now.
