August 20 - 22nd is the winning dates

    Greetings Everyone

Due to site and people availability the weekend of August 20 - 22nd, 2010 has been chosen for the first Ontario Summer Hang. It's for 2 nights.

I was informed by the reservation service that only 1 vehicle permit comes with each site, additional vehicles will have to pay per day to park. So if people can car pool, it would to be their advantage to do so.

    Cheers

    Brian

If I am allowed into Canada, I'll most likely be there.

It would really take some doing to annoy Canada Customs at the border to be denied entry in the country.

As it stands now, we have 2 sites booked for that weekend which will allow a max of 12 people. I'm willing to bet by the time August rolls around someone else will have to book a 3rd or 4th site. Once mid July rolls around we will make it more official as to who is going to claim spots on the 2 booked camping sites.

I saw in the other Ontario Hang thread that you asked where we are going and it is the Abes and Essens Lake trail at Bon Echo Provincial Park.

Glad to hear that you are in. In order to prepare depends on where you are starting from.

What gear do you already have to accommodate a backpacking trip for a loop of 17 km (this particular trail)? Other than your hammock, tarp and insulation, I would hope that you had a backpack to put it in and appropriate other camping gear to sustain yourself for 2 nights (if that how long your staying). So food, water and a means to prepare that food (stove of some sort). Head to the mec.ca website and check out their section on Hiking and Camping Information. It also includes a trip checklist.

Without more information on where you are starting from, it is rather hard to give you good suggestions.

    Cheers

There is always room for more. The more the merrier. Sometime Mid July I'll start a new thread for the hang to get a better idea of who is attending with certainty. As you may have read, we have 2 sites booked which can accommodate a max of 6 per site. If it looks like we need more a third person will have to book another site for the same weekend. There are 5 total sites on the trail and from what the park ranger indicated these sites on this particular trail are usually only 50% booked so getting another site on relatively short notice shouldn't (fingers crossed) be an issue.

    Cheers
