    Two hammocks, one tarp?

Trying to be cheap... I can do individual tarps if necessary but there are 6 in my fam and I was thinking of trying the warbonnet superfly and stacking 2 hammocks underneath. Anyone tried this? Any suggestions? Should I just do individual? Seems like a lot of tarps haha

It can be done. One option is to hang one above another (bunk bed style), but that presents more problems than benefits. The best option is to use spreader bars (single or double). I made a single spreader bar from instructions I found here on the forum. Unfortunately, or fortunately, my son decided he was confident enough to hang solo. So the bar was given to a friend who used it with good results.
Regardless of which option you choose, test and learn before heading out.

We don't have the Superfly but do hang two under a 12' tarp. We use a spreader bar at one end "sometimes". I'm not a fan of how they react. Most times we just share trees hanging off opposite sides.
Using the bar at one end, usually the foot, allows the doors to close at the head end if needed.
The things I've experienced, 1) the doors (if you have them) won't close. 2) the tarp has to be higher or you can get a lake between the two ridgelines if its raining.
Other than that, and of course less side coverage, it works and we do it often.

You could get six blue tarps cheap to start with, and upgrade to lighter/better tarps for the family members that still want to hang with you later.

Awesome advice! Thanks, we have a few different tarps we are going to experiment with. I should mention 4 of the hangars are our kiddos, we were thinking they above, mom, the oldest and I below, accepting the threat of being possible sacrifices to side rain. I just don’t want to lug around 6 tarps every time we camp so I was hoping to simplify if possible. Best bet may be one tarp to two hammocks if no rain expected and individual if expected. I’ll research the spreader bars as well. I’ll update later as I tinker. Thanks again!!

The SuperFly is a great tarp but DutchWare makes special “double wide” tarps that would usually work for a “two-on-one-tree” hang. However, given this is a new experience, maybe those less expensive hardware store blue tarps would be a start. After a few times out, you’ll have a much better idea of your needs (doors, or not, for privacy, etc.).
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

I have done this very thing for years with a $50 Equinox Egret 8x10 tarp. My two sons have shared a hammock and insulation since they were 6 and 4. They are 11 and 9 now, and I think we'll get another season out of this configuration. I can get the three of us under this one tarp either in a bunk bed configuration (me on bottom for safety) or side by side with a V configuration (I have never used spreader bars). We have adequate coverage for moderate rain. Might not do so well in a heavily blowing storm, but we have not had a bad experience yet!

I am currently in the market for a pair of slightly larger Dyneema tarps. The boys will use one when they are finally split to separate hammocks and my wife and I will share the other. But boy Dyneema is expensive and we have not yet chosen to afford it...

With my kids, we always find a way to hang with one tarp. The forests are full of such possibilities.

Hey Infrastellar, what UQs are your kids using there?

Also, those photos are advertisement quality.
