I've got several stout, shady trees in my yard, but unfortunately they're too far apart to hang a hammock. Today I tried an experiment that shows promise. One end of my Ridgerunner was tied to a tree, the other end to a stepladder, secured by a tie-down strap attached to one of these corkscrew-type dog anchors on the far side. It worked (sort of) but felt kinda rickety and the ladder wasn't quite tall enough.
It seems to me a better system could be constructed, one end secured to a tree, and the other to some portable stand, allowing movement around the yard. Of course, the key to it would be the strap and stake in the ground. Of course, I could just buy a full hammock stand, but the ones I've looked at aren't long enough, or tall enough to allow a tarp to be attached.
I'd like to engineer something from stuff bought at the hardware store, but I don't have a firm concept in mind. Any suggestions?
