2” vs 1” Spider Web Straps

I’m currently using the 1” straps and find they get wound up & rope like very easily and are tough on the tree. Has anyone had experience with the 2” straps? I’d like to know if they tend to lay flatter.

I just used my 1" spiders last week. I had a similar experience and have similar questions.

Here are two different dyneema straps I use - same issue with either brand.

2” vs 1” Spider Web Straps

Ya me too, I’m also having big issues with knots. I read on the suppliers site that they would work with marlin spikes but I don’t find that to be true. It’s nearly impossible to get the truckers knot undone (and ... tying the knot really does a “rope” number on the strap).

The good news, such as it is, the strap can be made flat again with a little work. Also, If I’m carefull I can keep the strap flat against the tree but, I suspect it would be easier with a 2 inch thick strap. You’d probably be able to get one inch width overall with less effort.

Glad you asked because I thought it was just me and my newbie ways

I’m using toggle and marlin spike hitch with no problems.

I went through various options for webbing and concluded that it's hard to beat simple 1" Kevlar 3.3, but for some reason it seems that nobody has it in stock now.

However, these have gotten many good reviews and I just ordered some of them, 10' in length which is plenty for the areas where I usually hike.

Uh-oh, I was afraid I was doing something wrong.

When I remove the toggle, the wedding has tightened up so much I can’t pull the loop through without getting my little awl out to pick the knot loose.

Is it possible you just leave the toggle in and not adjust each time?

I haven’t had that issue and remove the toggle every time.

You’re the second person to recommend those Autmn Ultralight straps.

To clarify, the link has options for Blue polyester, Dyneema and heavier Black polyester. The one I ordered is the Blue polyester @3g/ft.
