Hey Shorty, how you doin? (...short people in wide hammocks?)

Im getting a 2nd hammock - sometimes my wife will use it who is 5'4", other times I might loan it out to take a friend on a hike or take it instead of my chameleon. I like the Wide hammocks as I am 6'1", but will a shorter person like my wife have any issues with excess fabric or comfort in a Wide hammock? Im thinking of trying out a SLD 11' Trail Lair Wide if it matters at all. Trying to

Specifically looking for people under 5'6" who have experience sleeping in a 68ish" wide hammock. Did you have any issues? or do I need a non-wide hammock for my wife?

    Thanks in advance!

That's going to be something you and your wife will just have to try for yourselves to find out what works for you. I am 6'1" also and don't like hammocks any wider than 64". 11'x62" is my preference.

Yes, but a group consensus from a few short people will probably be 80% accurate and much cheaper

    Shorties, please chime in!

5’4” here. My husband had a Pares hammock from SMR that was 6’ wide. I hated it because it completely swallowed me. The stretch of their fabric may have contributed to that, but I still would never go for a wide hammock. I like to be able to see out. Extra width makes that more difficult.

That is my $.02. Your wife may prefer to be cocooned inside a wide hammock. It is all personal preference.

5' 4.5" and I like a wide hammock. Had a no name K-mart hammock that was similar to an Eno Doublenest and loved it. Could see out fine on one side but did have wall of fabric on other side. Also have a hammock from a cottage vendor that I dislike because it is too narrow for me and I only use as a lounger because the narrowness bothers me so much.

i'm 5ft 1in and my sparrow and i prefer a wide hammock and my sparrow is 72in wide. i found when i had a 58in wide dream hammock darien the way i sleep in the hammock the net was putting a lot of pressure on my ankles to the point it hurt. i first started out with a grand trunk skeeter beeter pro hammock and then an ENO double nest hammock and i got use to wide hammocks and don't mind the extra fabric. i now have a SLD trail lair hammock at 65in wide also

I am 5'2" and also do not prefer a wide hammock. If it is too wide it is time for the Knotty Mod

I was also wondering if a knotty mod would tame the extra fabric when needed and let it out when a taller person wanted the room.
The essential part of me can not be discussed here. Ask me in person.

When I switched from my Hennessy Expedition to the Survivor (no longer sold) which I think was 12 ft - I had to use my GPS to find my way out of it.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
