That 80% consensus doesn't seem to be going so well.

5'4" and never had a problem with a hammock being too wide. Too narrow - yes. Too short - yes. Too stretchy - yes. Too hard - yes. But too wide - no. At least as long as it is made from one piece of fabric.

One other consideration: will your wife be backpacking with it? Or, do you want her to try backpacking with it? If so, the little extra weight and space might be a factor. I’m not an ultra-lighter, but there is only so much one can carry on a smaller frame.

If this is for car camping, then it’s no big deal.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like the only issue with too wide is extra fabric, and I'll deal with that as needed. Some flexibility to loan it out to my taller friends or use it myself outweighs the complications of a knotty mod or other tieback solution. My wife will camp, but I dont think she'll ever backpack in far enough for the weight or volume of a larger hammock to matter.

    Forums FTW. Thanks!

5'1" here. Double hammocks have what I consider a nice feature. I can wrap that excess material around me and it's like being in a cocoon. Also, I find it easier to get a flat lay in a double hammock than in a single with any of the budget Amazon hammocks.

That said, I like my Chameleon better than any of them.

What width is your Chameleon? I'm 5'9" and find the 11'/52" quite comfortable. I have 2 of them, one Hexon 1.0 and one Hexon 1.6 and I prefer the 1.6.

I have an 11 foot, 57 inch wide, 50-something-inch wide (not the "wide" width, just the normal width) in the 1.0. I like it very well. I've just been having problems getting my UQ to hang right.

Oops, mine is not 52" width it is 58" ... that is the 'stock' size.

Are you using the UQ hooks on the hammock? Those should help keep the quilt in place.
