    UQ experimenting with haven tent

I did post this in the arrowhead equipment section because it is one of Paul’s quilts I’m trying. It’s a 40x90 from his KAQ LINE. I’ve been a little chilly in the haven when temps have dropped much past 30* f. I’m not ready at this point to say if it’s something that works or at least works well but thought I would post. The flaw in it is that you’re really insulating the bottom of the pad but some parts of the pad top....albeit only small parts, are still exposed to the air.

My guess is that it would provide some additional insulation value because with a suspended air mat there's an awful lot of real estate that is exposed to convective heat loss.

Looks as if you're set up there to provide the answer! What is the temp? One thing you can do is sleep with it attached, as in the photo, and then remove it around 2:30 am and see if you subsequently get cold.

As a backpacker who likes to pack as lightly as possible my concern is the weight and volume of the setup, but I appreciate that there are many folks for whom this is not a concern.

Nice idea. Has to help boost warmth for sure I would imagine.
One thing I tried was a thin ccf pad under my Haven pad to boost the temps and go a bit lower.
I do have the Haven pad cover that you put the pad in but never tried it this Winter.

100% correct about the volume being a concern. It’s already not really backpacker friendly. Luckily I would consider myself a “camper” first and “backpacker” somewhere else down the list. I really do like it though and I’m a tinkerer... so I like experimenting with stuff.

I have the pad cover as well but that thing weighs like 2 lbs! I guess half the fun is trying new stuff right?
