    Newbie whoopie sling suspension question

I've been seeing posts talking about replacing the loops in the hammock, n looping the whoopie through the hammock instead. How do you connect the sling to the tree, if it's looped through the hammock? Wouldn't ya still need a carabiner to connect the tree end? I've only used them a handful of times, n trying to lighten my pack weight where possible.

Whoopies have two ends: a fixed loop on one end and an adjustable loop on the other.

    You can use it by:

    1) threading fixed end through hammock, or

    2) using a continuous loop and whoopie hook (or caribiner) on the hammock, then connect whichever end of the whoopie you like.

#2 gives you the option to completely detach the whoopie from the hammock if its wet, slimy, or gross. #1 is simpler.

Both options require use of a webbing tree strap. You hook the whoopie onto the strap using a toggle and marlinspike hitch (or whatever - lots of ways to do this).

The lightest and simplest option however is to just directly tie the strap onto a continuous loop and ditch the whoopie altogether. Hammock knot required.

I made myself some short EVO loops for my hammock and much prefer them to continuous loops or larks heading my suspension directly to the hammock. A pair of these on each of my hammocks allows me to interchange suspensions extremely easily and quickly. I made mine a bit shorter than traditional 8" loops to help take up a little bit of unnecessary slack.

Personally, I like the tree strap/marlinspike/toggle method.

Right now my setup is UHMWPE tree huggers to my whoopies. I alternate between using a marlinspike hitch and just using the beckett.

If I loose my toggles a few more times I'll be a beckett hitch devotee full time...

This looks really clean and nicely constructed, good job! I've been getting into splicing Amsteel over the last year and would like to try these. What guide/resource did you follow to make these?

I used a couple different soft shackle tutorial videos, I don't recall exactly which but they were for highlining. They were working with larger diameter Amsteel but the principal is the same, just leave out the small locking loop on a soft shackle and you have them, will take a little experimentation to get the length you want.
