Could you put me down for a maybe? Before this came up I had thought about doing the Northern hang, but it's a pretty long drive for a weekend. I need to shift a couple of things before committing. Hopefully there will be a campsite available in the future or I'll be able to share a site with others. The area is also a place of interest for me for future family trips. Anyone have plans to trailride? What kind of terrain are the biking trails, rocky, hilly, flat?

If you can't get a site you can share mine with me ... I already reserved a site but have to find a good one that morning ...

sorry to hear you won't make it, take care.
Nothing is for certain, so there is still a chance that I'll come. Competition for houses in Detroit area is surprisingly stiff, and I've been outbid on three houses already. If this one falls through, my schedule will be up in the air, again. But with the short notice, I'll have to take you up on your offer to share your site.

As with all of my US-bound trips, mark me down as 'maybe'.

I will not know until the day-of the trip, so there is no point in me making reservations. I am hoping that I can find a site when I arrive.
    I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
    I use Linux.
    I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!

I have not ridden there but have been hiking and X-country skiing there and I would say riding would be challenging. Some is quite hilly and sandy, but its a big place and I haven't covered it all so I say go for it, I don't think you'll be disappointed unless you were hoping for flat. Fort Custer in Battle Creek is a great place to ride as well, you may want that on your list for future trips.

    Good luck,

Is it really that difficult to cross the border? I wonder how much trouble the Canadians will give me trying to cross...

It is only difficult for me since March 15th.

I used to cross atleast twice per month to go shopping. And it was never a problem. Since January I was over visiting my new girlfriend fairly often.
    We are now engaged.
So I was spending the night there, coming to Canada in the morning to goto work, and returning to the US after work.

US CBP said that I was spending 'too much time over here'. And ever since then I have had a difficult time crossing. (I need to goto the 'Immigration Office', get interviewed by an agent, provide proof that I live & work in Canada {bank statements, bills, pay-stubs, etc..}), and hope that they don't turn me away. This interrogation usually takes 1-1.5 hours.

My situation is atypical. If I hadn't been spending so much time over there I wouldn't have a problem crossing now.

I have never heard of anybody haveing difficulty getting into Canada, so you really don't need to worry about coming over here. Just be prepared for grief when you try to go home. =)

Thanks, I'll let you know asap. As far as riding, I'm a little past big drops and boulders, but I don't mind a few hills. If I fall and break something, that means I can't work. If I can't work, that means I don't make money. If I don't make money, the kids can't eat. See the logic . I like hiking just as much!

Trail map It's roughly a mile from Deep Lake to Hall Lake, as the crow flies, for reference. Sandy and hilly is a good anology, Oms.

Anymore takers on the First Annual Michigan hang?
Yankee Springs seems to be a good campground for this year! .. Next year it will probably change, plus we have to plan a weekend in the Manistee National Forest this fall. There seems to be a lot of sites still open! ... Let's get everyone from Michigan involved in this one! ....
