Hey all, hope I did this right. Did the outside pull outs as instructed by WB. I was going to seam seal the pull outs from the inside as well. Am I doing this right?
Got some aftermarket seam grip by Gear Aid. Using a brush to apply.

I seam sealed from the inside only, per their video. Used their included sealer and a latex glove to work and push the sealer into the threads and fabric.
Yeah, I can't see why you'd have done any harm sealing the outside, but the recommendation is for the inside. Now the silicone is more visible on the outside of the tarp, not that it matters functionally.
Ah. What a rookie. Just put the sealant on the inside.
Perhaps tomorrow, take a hose and see if it leaks?

We were all rookie. Sometimes, I still am. There is nothing wrong with putting the sealer on the outside AFTER you put it on the inside. I’m guessing the idea is the outside is more subject to UV, rain, bird deposits, etc. The inside is more protected so the sealant will last longer. How long … I’ve only sealed my tarps once But if there were a leak, I’d just seal it again. The only note is, if you use sealer other than what was supplied, there are some on the market specifically for polyester and some specifically for silnylon. So you want to use what is formulated for your tarp material.

Just looked up the gear aid stuff I used and thankfully it was for Silnylon,which is the same fabric as my thunderfly tarp. Shwooo

Seam Grip is fine for nylon and polyester! It's also thinner than undilited silicone, so it will do a good job of getting into the threads.
No harm on the outside. It is camping gear.

I did the inside but see zero issue on why the outside cause any problems whatsoever. Whatever floats your boat. It's sealed from both sides now so it should not leak.
I've had 5 Warbonnet tarps since 2012. Always done the outside like you did here. Pretty clean job and can hardly tell even close up like this.
I like to prevent water from getting into the thread at all in the first place...opposed to letting the thread soak up rain and rely on the inside sealing to hold it back. I know both work though.
