Five Basic Principles of Going Lighter (not me... the great Cam Honan of OZ)
“If everybody is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking.” ~ Gen. George S Patton
I used 900FP for my first quilt set and 850FP for the second. The 850FP down clusters were noticeably smaller, but once they were all sewn up in the quilts, I can’t tell any difference in loft. I used the UQ calculator and played around with the numbers to decide whether or not to spend the extra money on the higher FP this time. In the end, I think the total weight difference between 850 and 900 was less than an ounce, but a much larger weight difference between 7D and 15D fabric.
I think I still have a handful of the 900FP. I’ll post a pic in a bit to show the cluster difference in the 850 and 900 that I bought, along with an unknown FP that I pulled from an old comforter. It was interesting to ME, anyway!
Ok, they’re not the best quality pics, but I think they show a bit of the difference. From left to right: mystery FP, 850FP, and 900FP. Both the 850 and 900 were bought from the same company.
