As a recent transplant to the Charlotte area, which guide book did you get those maps from? Stone Mountain is less than 90 minutes from me and could serve as a convenient place to spend some time in the woods.

Thanks for the kind words Syb! I downloaded that map from the Stone Mountain State Park website.

I’ll also suggest South Mountains State Park as another great place to get in the woods close to Charlotte.

I used this video to convince my 15 yr old to visit Stone Mountain SP this past June during a few week days. The weather was humid and relatively warm with lots of cloud cover and temperatures between 68F and 78F. Those trails feel very different in the summer… he trail up to the backpacking camp site was lush and wet! We felt like we had the park to ourselves, and the solitude was wonderful.

Thanks for making and sharing this video.

Very cool that your 15 year old backpacked with you! Glad that my video could play a small role in making that happen and y'all had a good trip. Thanks for sharing the details on the trip with your kid.
