When I came across a bear on a trail - at least 50 if not more yards away - I tried to blow the whistle I had on my compass cord. Hard to breath out when the only air flow was sucking in. I figured the only purpose of the whistle was to have something to throw. There was something else I almost could have thrown, but I still had control of bodily functions.

Good recovery on the “moon landing”.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

I figured I wasn't alone in this! I seem to have had the most extreme reaction. I should probably see a therapist.

I doubt indoor people realize how bright the midnight woods can be on a clear night when the moon is full. Me as a kid walking through the night woods to a deer stand, looking up and realizing I could see! Turning my flashlight off and walked without it. I remember thinking how wild and spooky that was. Then later seeing a full moon at night in Cranberry Glades when there was snow on the ground. You could probably read a book.

Agreed! I took this photo well after sundown. I couldn't believe how bright it was and wanted to see if my phone could capture the moment.

Countrybois, that picture is really impressive. Like the way you made the low light settings work for you.

LOL funny! Mine was camping under the stars when I was around 12. Something was getting closer and closer, over about 1/2 hour. My brain was going from sasquach to space aliens to werewolves. Turns out it was a dog. I scratched him and got him something to eat and he curled up on the end of my sleeping bag for a nap. Woke up the next morning in the hopes of reuniting him with his owners, only to find he had moved on.

Two pops from 1 1/2 inch flashcrackers at night and whatever it is leaves immediately, whether two or four legs.

I would say that the same thing happened to me once but that would be a lie.

It has happened more than once. LOL.
