The trail winder looked like a great system for me. Just hang it underneath, no fuss no muss. Synthetic instead of down, I'm in atlantic Canada, so it's not moisture so much as just wet. And while the the trail winder looks very reasonably priced, as I said, I'm canadian, so between the exchange, shipping and duty, gets pricey.
I'm no slouch with a thread injector, so I figured I tried to make one.
10oz climashield
0.66oz membrane 10 taffeta nylon
I cut the climashield 7.5ft long and took 5 inches off the width.
I cut the silver taffeta nylon to almost 8ft long.
I cut the blue taffeta nylon around 10ft and took 3 inches off the width
I cut the blue taffeta nylon into 4x 4inch x 48inch for side channels
I centered the climashield on the silver taffeta, folded the silver around the insulation 2 inches and sewed it down.
I sewed the blue taffeta into a 9.5ft hammock
I hemmed and sewed side channels
I sewed side channels to hammock
Sewed the silver/insulation to the hammock/channels
Used some 1/8 shock cord for the suspension and through side channels with plastic cord lock for syncing
And two mini biners to clip onto the hammock.
..... Next to try it out with the matching top quilt in my home made hammock setup
