Watching it snow from the hammock

    Folks,

When I was a ground dweller, winter camping was out of the question for me. I'd been in cold (no snow) weather in a tent before and no way was I going to try ice and snow.

I just spent my first night sleeping in a hammock during a snow storm. Just magical watching it come down the last few hours of the day. It got down to 27 and I was warm and comfortable all night. I was glad to finally test my gear closer to its lower limit.

This is such a rich activity - no matter the season being able to enjoy nature in complete comfort is such a game changer for exploring the outdoors. So glad that I discovered hammock camping.

Anyone got pictures of the hammocks and snow?

I’m a little envious because I live in Florida, don’t get to see snow oft... at all

I have done winter camping before but last night was the first time with snow on the ground and was awesome. Was on a scouting trip and because of the hints I have gotten here, I had no problems with my tarp. Just burying the stakes sideways in the snow and letting things sit worked fine

Love, love watching the snow fall from the hammock! There is nothing like the quiet whisper of flakes hitting the tarp.

30", high sustained winds, heavy spindrift, eh, not so much.

I was reminded that it's better to batten down the hatches and forgo porch mode when it's expected to get nasty.
