NC- Linville Gorge Wintertime Hang; Feb 25-28

Covid restrictions in VA have forced us to cancel the Annual Mt Rogers/GHSP Winter Hang but some of these same folks still want to get together for some winter hang time, using the same time frame.
    So here we go!

    REGISTRATION SPREADSHEET HERE.

Please register on the Google Spreadsheet. It helps greatly with planning.

Linville Gorge is a rugged and beautiful place in the NC Mountains, sometimes referred to as "The Grand Canon of the East".
Of course it would be dwarfed by the Grand Canon in size but it is a beauty in it's self.

There are two Face Book groups...
    Linville Gorge; https://www.facebook.com/groups/LinvilleGorge
    Lovers of Linville Gorge; https://www.facebook.com/groups/1337791182940801

They are private groups so you may need to join to ask questions... not sure.

The large group site we plan to gather in is referred to as "Event Camp", just south of Wiseman's View, on Kistler Memorial Hwy (105) running the west ridge of LG.

We will be talking about road conditions on 105.
Sometimes it gets rutted out, making it difficult to drive with some cars, but if I'm not mistaken, it is in pretty good shape as of now.
Of course, there may be snow or ice to be aware of.

There should be plenty of room for parking around the main part of the site,
along with plenty o trees to spread out in.

Bring your water and a way to keep it from freezing if need be.

We will talk about if this group still wants to do group meals , Sat Breakfast and Sat Supper.
There will not necessarily be a need for a raffle considering there is no charge for camping unless it's a smaller raffle for fun.

I don't know if there will be any women or children with us but non the less, as always we strive to treat others with respect.

We watch out for others, especially in cold weather camping.
If you have needs or concerns, talk to someone.

As much as I love freedom of speech and have strong opinions myself, I think it best that we avoid talking politics. there are many strong and varied opinions and this should be a time to relax, enjoy and be thankful for all that we do have.

Lets hear your thoughts on this hang.

NC- Linville Gorge Wintertime Hang; Feb 25-28

    Looking forward to it.
Hoping to hike some trails and taking lots of pictures which has nothing to do with me being out of shape or slow or catching my breath.

Coming from Charlotte... it seems like it would be better to hit 105 on the south side and come up that way - depending on conditions of course.
    Do I have that right?

I did drive 105 southbound a couple weeks ago and it was fine for my Honda CRV. I was thanking the road maintainers doe clearing some trees that had been down on the road.

Hey, I know out of shape and slow, that's me!
You may be right about coming up 105 from the south but others may know better.

I’ll be there unless Old NC 105/1238 is slippery and heavily rutted.
I got Spring Fever, time to get in piney woods

As of now I plan to make up there Friday. Do we have any idea on fire wood for the weekend? Should we all try and bring some?

My impression from what I herd is that the ruts are not bad at this time.
We'll keep an eye/ear out on driving conditions.
