Hi Everyone,
I have been getting amazing information from this forum. Can’t wait to participate. It so amazing how nuanced “hang your own hang” is. I am such a newbie and yet in less than two months I have gone from a ground dweller to full hang. Well, the jury is still out because I have not been able to field test things too much yet.
I, like so many folks on the trail, have had to deal with medical issues. Fortunately, better living through chemistry has saved me from the ill fated future of the “tour bus crowd”. DMARDs are my friend but even with them I carry several sleeping matts (including a sea to summit comfort plus) and use at least three most nights.
Why did it take me so long to look at hammocks? It's probably from all those bad experiences with hammocks as a kid. Still, I felt compelled to take another look because so many folks near my age on the trails are using hammocks. So I tried a cheap one and could see there was potential. And then, because I needed some projects to do during the winter, I ordered fabric to make a hammock (under quilt, tarps, etc). Now I have high hopes that this is going to make a world of difference in a few weeks when trail weather comes again to the deep south.
Cheers,
Ken
Here is a picture the my hammock and 10* under quilt set up in woods near home (well maybe not, looks like my pictures on a Mac are not Jpegsl)
