Can I use my webbing straps for trees on an indoor hook off the wall?

That's a good point, the chains would be noisy. I'm just worried I'll wear out my straps, and they're the only pair I've got.

I'm planning on mainly sleeping in my hammock once it's up, and I go camping often outside of the winter months - so if I use the same suspension at home most nights and take it with me camping will I wear them out? I wouldn't want my suspension failing on me in the outback.

They won't wear out. I've had plain 1" poly webbing on my indoor hammock continuously for 6 years.

You can get plain poly webbing from the hardware store for pennies per foot. Get a couple of $2 strap adjusters and that's all you will ever need for indoor hanging.

You want to avoid metal on metal though. They grind after long periods of use, and often make annoying scraping sounds when weighted. Strap is light, quiet, and tough.

After reading all the replies I think I'll just use my current straps until I get a secondary set strictly for indoor hangs. Luckily I was able to cancel my order on the chains.
