When I do crossings like that in the winter I strip down to my underwear, cross in bare feet, and put my stuff back on after I'm across. Stream crossing wet is a wet that doesn't go away for days.

Would've been nice but we had approximately 30 stream crossings (County Line Branch) that day which made it impractical. The dry set of longjohns and spare socks were really critical for that trip. It was tough putting on cold wet clothes in the morning but there was no alternative.
