This is why I think the Superior Gear hammock https://superiorgear.com I have been using this Winter is so good with the built in UQ. It really helps new folks who often struggle and get frustrated by getting a UQ dialed in.
That looks very interesting. Was always going to need a second setup for the wife, so that might be the go to winter/second person setup for my next purchase. I will say that I felt I was quite close before the s-biner broke. Maybe halfway between those 2 setups is the right tension.

Try tying it with strong cord to replace the s-biner as you are so close to getting the set-up correct. Or just wrap the shock cord from primary around hammock whipping. Don't stop on account of an s-biner!!!!

First off Hang, thats the best username/profile pic combo i've seen on here!

Looks like you are getting close. Dont get discouraged! I probably went on 5 or so trips and a lot of fiddling around at my house before I got things how I wanted them.

I'm stuck in conference calls for another few hours. Home Depot will have replacements. Going to try to get this sorted out to sleep in the back yard tonight (30*)

I'd recommend the metal S biners over the plastic, just an FYI. You shouldn't have any problem with those failing.

On the other hand, if the 'biner hadn't broken (and a metal one wouldn't), I hate to think what might have... I think the only reason the 'biner failed is because the primary was WAY too tight while trying to dial it in.

I think about the times that people miss the hammock body and end up on the ground inside of the UQ. I'd be happy in that instance if a plastic 'biner failed.

When Shug is on the string you don’t need others to reply (starstruck).... but! One thing that took me a bit to figure out is that without quick connect suspension on my HammockGear quilts, I have to thread the hammock though the quilt suspension. When I don’t, the quilt tries to migrate.
Regarding your original question about the lay on the quilt, you lay diagonally, but the ends should still cinch to keep drafts from head/foot ends.

My local HomeDepot has s-biners pretty cheap.

Aside from the angle of the hammock and tension on UQ suspension (other pros responses), keep playing with it. That quilt will keep you cozy while your friends are doing jumping jacks!

Update: have a couple HD s-biners to play with now, but no dice on fixing the cold spots yet. Sun went down and there went the heat. I've still got air pockets in the same spots.
