everybody's favorite ways to attach structural ridgelines to hammocks that don't come with them?
hammocks were first brought to the civilized world by sailors in 1492, not much has changed besides materials, meaning hammocks are pretty perfect and have always been pretty perfect.
Spliced loop on each end. The loops are threaded through the gathered end and secured by the CL (or whatever) that holds the gathered end together. I like to add something like HG's ti clip just inside of the head end to be able to detach and stow the CRL at the foot end if I'm just lounging in the hammock and the bug net is out of the way. That of course means a couple of extra spliced loops, being mindful of the finished overall length of the CRL.
I suppose puting on the SRL is one time event so it doesn’t matter if there’s some fuss. I usually have rings on my hammock's continuous loops so I can swap out different suspension styles (and it’s a water break/brake). If I were to add a SRL with a spliced eye around the CL, the eye would have to be large enough to go around the ring or I’d take the ring off first. Or I could just use a smaller loop and larks head it to the CL - no need to fit anything through a spliced eye. One thing I wish I would have thought of earlier was to make the SRL long enough to add alpine loops in the ridgle line for an organizer or head end storage bag. Maybe the organizer on prusiks would be better so I could slide it to different locations.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
Larksheaded to the hammock suspension where it meets the hammock on both sides.
Larks to one side, mini biner or soft shackle to the other side side for easy removal.
Word of caution, hanging your hammock very flat, like 15 degrees, will cause the mini biners to fail in catastrophic fashion.
