Single digit temps on the Appalachian Trail to 10 Mile Lean To

Just got back from an overnight backpacking trip with cmoulder, mikem and brutalguyracing. We hiked about 10 miles on the Appalachian trail from Metro North train station (Rt.22) northbound to 10 Mile Lean To. There was a few inches of fresh snow covering some ice and we pretty much broke the trail as we hiked. I left my beloved hammock home for this trip and instead slept in my Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo tent. This is NOT a gear review video, just some footage of our trip. You guys are awesome and I had a really good time out there with you in single digit temps!!
    Enjoy the video...

Yo Dirtbaghiker! Thanks for getting that video together so quickly.

My wife watched it and still thinks we're nutz!

It was GREAT to finally meet you and BGR in person — good people and really fun to hang with. Let's get up to the Catskills soon.

Thanks for the vid! Had a great time. Cold... as far as the thermometer read.. But didn't feel it. Average was in the mid-teens and it was 6F overnight. That 'up-up-up' first thing in the morning gets your attention for sure! And we had it both days..

Very nicely done. I'm definitely adding this to my "to-hike" list when it gets a touch warmer. Is it my imagination or did those shelters look significantly more cared-for / clean then some in Harriman? And I didn't see any abandoned tents in the middle of the trail! Different clientele I suppose.

Definitely better maintained than Harriman (esp Bald Rocks and Tom Jones), although still not quite as well (generally) as ADK and most PA-DEC shelters. Best I've ever seen are in Baxter SP in Maine, but then you'll pay a pretty penny for using them!

However, I've always hated sleeping in shelters although I'll gladly use them for cooking dinner and hanging out in nasty weather.

Looking at that profile, it accurately reflects the walk... two real climbs but a lot of fairly easy truckin' in between!
