First underquilt for souther europe spring summer autumn

    Hello friends!

I'm looking for my first underquilt for long forest walk abouts in spring, summer and autumn. I'm in Europe (Croatia to be precise) so I'm basically limited to Cumulus underquilts, which is fine by me as they have a good reputation.

As I wont be going out when it is really cold, the two smallest ones they do seem best, both are 3/4 length (180cm), one has 250g of 850fp down and the second 120g. Cumulus state comfort rating of 2c for the 250 and 9c for the 120.

I'm worried that either the 250 would be too warm for summer or the 120 too cool for spring and autumn. I've never slept before with an underquilt so it's all guessing.

Does anyone have any advice on which would be the most versatile option? Is it feasible to just loosen off a thicker UQ in the summer months and use a much thinner top quilt/bag to prevent boiling over night?

    Many thanks for any help,

    Ed the Ted

take the 250 one and tell them to make it 180cm long between the linelocs. They state 180 cm, which is in the center, useless.

Could you explain that a little bit? So you think it's too short? They do make one with 300g of down which is 215cm long, perhaps that is closer to what you mean?

right, the 250 is short, their mistake

300 will be overkill for summer in croatia, i would even go with custom 150g and 180cm between the linelocs. Write them

Isn't it normal to have a 3/4 length quilt though? Seems like a lot of people use them.

I dont think its normal at all. If the quilt length is stated as 180cm, it should be so.

Now I'm really confused, you are saying that despite being listed as 180cm it actually isn't? When I write 3/4 I mean designed to cover 3/4 of the body in the hammock, so you need a pillow and a foot pad too.

I'm guessing you think this type of design is useless and I should ask for it to be longer but not thicker.

what they offer is not 3/4, but faulty full length ... they never asked my questions regarding this. When they shipped me this short quilt, I sent it back and asked for 180cm long one. Originally they where producing 200cm long selva 250 UQ. Now they sell it like 180cm, but it is 150cm between the linelocs, and 180 in the center, as it is a bit oval. They messed up. Described like 180cm long, but usable part is 150cm. That is more than 3/4 and less then full So I am telling you, ask them for a quilt 150 or 200 that is 180cm long between the linelocs. From selva 360 up, it is ok as described. They do custom work. Or ask them the distance between linelocs, maybe they have corrected it.

Maybe it will be ok for you. But in my case, I felt pressure from the shockcord at the foot. I am 182 cm. If the quilt would be 180cm, I would fit nicely diagonal. But I did not.
