diy uq question - baffle height

Hey guys, quick question for you--Im building a down underquilt with baffles that go across the quilt (similar to a jrb mount Washington) My question is........ for a 0 degree quilt, how tall do the baffles have to be? (I found a chart that said 3.5 inches of loft for a 0 degree quilt, but I wasn't sure if that was baffle height or the height of the chamber in the middle?) Thanks for the help!

bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Stevebo...I don't have the link off-hand, but there's a quilt calculator spreadsheet on here somewhere that calculates all the details for you based on your desired temperature rating. I'm sure someone will post it if you can't find it by searching. I used it when calculating and building my UQ; it was a great help.

Thanks! My second question is, when using bug netting as baffle material, how much seam allowance/edge distance do you allow for? (or do you fold the edge over and then sew it to the quilt body?)

This is great, but there is one glaring omission. (I didn't read the 150 posts discussing the calculator, so it may have been updated.) The problem is that the lengthwise curvature isn't addressed. The top layer and the bottom layer should not be the same length. Make the bottom layer longer and put in small pleats along the sides to make the edges match. Also, make the baffles the same length as the bottom layer and shorten baffle the top edges with pleats.

This is the thread for the calculator https://hammockforums.net/forum/show...culator/page13

And this is the link to the calculator https://www.dropbox.com/s/a1hz6ya4b3..._Calc.xls?dl=0

WV, you're right it ws updated to be a differential calculator, which takes into account the curvature and took it even further to include a double curvature for the individual baffle tops.
