What side of your BB/XLC do you get in on? Footbox side or non-footbox side?

Hi, I have an XLC that's fairly new to me - I've only had it out a few times. I'm a left lay, so head right/feet left, and my preferred side to get in on is the left side. That way I get into the hammock, lay back, and I'm already in the right position. I've always done this with gathered-end hammocks. For my XLC, this would mean getting in on the same side as the shelf/footbox. HOWEVER, when I have tried this with my XLC, I absolutely cannot close the zippers on that side (the footbox side). The two zipper halves just don't want to come together, and I don't want to put strain on them. So I end up getting in on the right side, zipping up (easily), at which point I'm in a right lay, and then flip-flopping into my preferred left lay. This isn't a huge deal, but it's a bit annoying and awkward. Has anyone else run into this issue? Is it a matter of how I'm hanging my XLC? What side do y'all get in on?

I always get in and out on the non-shelf side and have never had a problem.

Yes, the only time I tried to get in on the "shelf side", I could not close the zipper. I immediately got out and never tried that again. I think the full-length zipper is only intended to allow using different top covers, not to allow entry from both sides.

Okay, that's good information, thanks. I tried removing the bug-netting just to test things out, and it turns out I actually find it more comfortable without the footbox! Getting rid of the footbox actually eliminated my calf ridge. I'm going to be ordering an underquilt protector as soon as I figure out colors, so the route I might go is zipping the UQP to the bug-netting, and just having the hammock float inside, if that turns out to be a more comfortable option for me. Between winter temps and the heavy rains we get during the warmer months, I actually wouldn't mind a full-time UQP.

Ditto, but I have an older BB XLC that has the single continuous zipper so I got into the habit of getting in on the non-shelf side. I would think getting in on the shelf side would be a tad more difficult due to the shelf.
