    Tensa 4 hammock stand

    Hi

I have been reading and viewing lots of info on this tense 4 stand, before I take the plunge and get one sent across the pong(cost a fortune though) I have a BB xlc, I have read that a lot of hangers end up bashing the supporting poles with head or feet or both which I could not stand if thats happens, can you give me your own thought on this please

    Thanks in advance

    Dave

I've hung my XLC several times on my Tensa 4.
It takes a bit if messing about with it to find the right spot from hammock to hammock. Adjusting base width, proper base pole orientation, and length.
Once you find the sweet spot just measure and make note of all measurements for that particular hammock.

Agree with Shug..takes some ‘fiddlingly’ but once you have it set it works well. Writing down a few key measurements is a great idea. I will add I found the tarp extension poles worth the cost too. I hung a BB XLC under a Thunderfly tarp and was able to get a nice, tight ridgeline on the tarp. That took some trial and error too!

I hang my WBBBXLC from my Tensa4 a lot. The first time you set it up, you'll probably fiddle with it a bit the first time to find the sweet spot.

Noting the measurements if you're going to switch between hammocks seems like a good idea. If you're not, leave the ridgeline and baseline alone, and the tensa4 will stand exactly the same.

If you have a tarp longer than 11' or so, or you like a tarp high up, the tarp extensions (or your own DIY) are worth it. I would also consider the 1 boomstake and 1 orange screw option. Boomstakes are awesome, except in very sandy/beachy soil, where the orange screw comes into it's own.

thanks for all your sound advice,it seems to be a fiddle maybe to get the sweet spot, but once thats done i would hope to not have the bashing head or foot to be a constant problems, i have 11ft hex tarp and 11ft UGQ winterdream so would be be easier with tarp ext I would think to give me a bit more wiggle room

The Tensa comes with a head-tether now...so just use that and you will not mousetrap.

I did see you that had a go shug lol, can imagine the chaos in the middle of the night I think the head tether will stay on permanently, I do think I will get the boomstake as well as orange screw, those 40cm boomstakes will hold a house by the look of them

I'm not sure what you want to use it for specifically. If you want to take it any significant distance on foot, I suppose getting an actual Tensa 4 is your best option (weight wise).

Otherwise, you might want to try one of the many DIY options. For home use I guess a version made of fence post or just a single diameter EMT might work (assuming you have those or equivalent in the UK).

I use mine indoors and will take it car camping (when that's a thing again) and made mine from 3/4" and 1" EMT. Each pole is in 3 sections and I made sure to cut them so that the longest (middle) section will fit in our small car's trunk. It's heavy though. There's a bunch of posts about various versions, including the one I made on here and the Tensa Blog actually links to some.
