Just wondering how you guys guyout your doors on the Thunderfly? Do you go to the same tree as the ridgeline or do you go to the ground with a stake? Or is that tree distance dependent?

Typically I go to a stake, mainly to keep from tripping over the lines. If I’m really in full storm mode, each door get attached to the opposite side guyout on the tarp itself which ends up overlapping the doors. Very secure and does a great job at blocking wind and rain.

Even at a 15' distance, that doesn't leave me with enough room to get a stake. The trunk/roots won't allow. Staking to the side gives it a dirty sloppy setup. So I just wrap around the tree.
I use MSR mini ground hogs for the corners and the doors. I've been meaning to swap the door stakes for shepherd hooks and see how they work.
I use 8-9' of cord with a Dutch Wasp larks headed to their micro carabiners that I tie out to the same tree that I have my ridgeline secured to for my Minifly and soon for my new Thunderfly as well. If for some reason the tree was too far away I'd prolly just stake it out rather than bother with an extension, I carry 4 mini groundhogs and 2 flea stakes but I always tie my corner guylines to other more secure objects like trees and bushes when I can, so I always have extra stakes.

Thanks guys! Seems to be pretty evenly split so far with the small sample size. I was planning on going with the same type setup I will be using on the ridgeline and using a mini-ucr around the tree. I'll pack a couple extra stakes just in case!
Mini UCRs will likely be a pain to operate if you ever plan to camp in the cold, perhaps a truckers hitch tied off with a slippery half hitch? sometimes simpler is better. I'm only using Wasps because I had them from my previous ridgeline setup before I bought a pair of Stingerz so I could easily use the same ridgeline for all my tarps.
I stake by the tree. The line doesn't have to be inline with the RL, contrary to my concern

The tree does save some line. I don't carry much. But if the tree is a big diameter, then you screwed yourself.
Here's a typical setup for me, about 14-15' spacing. Maybe I'll start taking eye screws to drill in
I go around the tree low. I tied loops in the line and do a quick truckers hitch. Easy and secure.
