Resurrecting a cold thread - sort of - temps are going down!

The temps are heading for "below 0" territory this weekend here in WI. I'm planning a backyard challenge for myself to sleep outdoors at -15°F with -29°F windchill. I experienced a PB of -26°F a couple years ago, but this time around the windchill will be a factor that I didn't have back then.

Here's the thread started by the intrepid BananaHammock of freeze-fame.

What a complete fizzle for cold temp forecasting. Tonight we will have a balmy -7°F which is not anywhere near the -15°F promised four days ago and there is no wind whatsoever so nix on the -29°F windchill. So I shoveled the driveway extra sharp on the corners today and will watch the forecast like Charlie Brown watched Lucy hold the football.

    Hey Watertooner,

I hung Saturday night at home. My thermometer showed -12F (+/- 2) with some wind. Was quite comfortable all night. Went back out for a nap Sunday afternoon.

    Hope you are doing well.

Thanks, Tato Spud, doing well here - just waiting for a deep cold spell some day and a chance to practice. Those kind of temps bring other issues to the surface, but one way to counteract the tendency to hunker down is to find ways to get out and "enjoy" it. Good to hear that you are sleeping well.

Watertooner, -7° in Wisconsin? Are you having an early Spring
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

It's not supposed to be that cold in VT this weekend, 0 to -10 (my house site is usually a bit colder), but still cold enough to go out and test-nap some different setups. I've only tested into the mid-20's up to now, but recent nights in a tent *gasp* on the ground, have convinced me to try out the hammock for winter camping.

Well, I did say it was balmy and a WI woodchuck somewhere said spring was coming early. I'm hoping ParaJosh's numbers come through for this weekend.
