Just getting into backpacking after over 40 years, and getting into the whole hammock unIverse. Initially I went with the typical 20 degree TQ and UQ setup and it works great for summer/fall ( haven’t done a spring trip yet ).
But thinking about a bit of winter camping in our cold Upper Peninsula weather. I’ve ordered a 40 degree UQ to layer with my 20. Now thinking top quilts. But as my thinking and investigation has gone on I have a question. Do I go the same route with a TQ set up or just get a zero degree TQ?
Here is my thinking so far. I can get a HG Economy Burrow zero degree that goes about 2lbs, or go with a 40 degree and layer with my 20 degree UGQ, carry weight of the two being close to the single zero. With layered TQ I think there could be issues with one sliding off of the other so loss of coverage/heat retention.
Please regale me with your wisdom and insights.
