One last thing. How about putting one in each boot to keep them warmer at night so you have warmer and maybe drier boots for in the morning?
I don’t think they will warm your boots, certainly not overnight. Case in point, I’ve had a pair of gloves on an electric boot warmer for an hour and they are still damp. You’re not going to get anything near that heat output from a hand warmer. The Hot Hands website, for example, says they can last 1-20 hours depending on the product. That’s quite a range! Your boots are going to get cold, no way around that unless you wrap them in bags and sleep with them and that’s bloody uncomfortable but it’s been done.
On a recent trip I put one under my toes between socks on each foot, kept my toes warm most of the night and did have a good effect on my overall warmth...or feeling of.
They really are useful in my opinion, from a cold sleeper.
Don't do it. Just don't. There's a learning curve associated with cold-weather camping. There are no shortcuts.
