VA>Prince WIlliam Forest Park>Feb 19-21 Chili Butt Hang. New Location!

We're trying out a new location this year!

This is the official planning page for the 2021 Chili Butt Hang at Turkey Run group campsite in Prince William Forest Park, Triangle, Va.

I will be providing communal dutch oven chili served Friday night. Please sign up on the google spreadsheet about what accompaniments you would like to bring for the chili. Saturday breakfast is individual, but feel free to bring extra to share with others.

In years past, we've taken a break from the cold woods on Saturday afternoon, and gone to a local watering hole for some cold beverages and warm food. We'll find a new spot to go to near the park to keep with the tradition.

There are excellent hiking opportunities within the park with miles and miles of trails accessible from the campsite or a short drive elsewhere in Prince William Forest Park.

Virginia’s current orders are in effect till Jan. 31st. Let’s hope we can turn the upswing into a downswing. The Chilly Butt hang at Grayson looks like it will be moved to Feb. as well.

My first hang was the NOVA hang in November at PWFP. Unfortunately, I had to leave early and unexpectedly. I'm looking forward to going back to to the park again next month to give it another try and meet some new folks. Hope they let us!

Right now, we’re planning on having the hang as long as state restrictions ease to allow more than 10 people to gather.

The governor should be announcing new state guidelines in the coming week as his order to restrict gatherings to 10 people is set to expire on the 31st.

If group size restrictions are loosened, we’ll go ahead with the planned Hang. If the 10 person limit continues, we’ll look at what options we have.

Here in NC we still have curfew now till Feb 28. Just announced.

Northam just announced the extentions of the restrictions in VA till the end of February. Bummer.

So, Gov Northam is looking to extend the 10 person gathering limit into February. Being that the hang is scheduled to take place at a group campsite in a national park, I don’t want to gather a large group only for us to be dispearsed by park police. This puts a damper on our plans.

A few options that I can think of:
1) Stay at the park, but book another group site or two at $40/$65 per night so we can disperse in groups of 10.
2)move the hang back to Marsden Tract in Maryland. I haven’t heard about group size restrictions in Maryland. Anyone have an update on that news from Gov Hogan?
3) Cancel the hang for the year. Play it safe for all parties involved.

What option do you like? Any other suggestions?

I’ve changed the date to Feb 26-28.
Location Turkey Run group Campsite in Prince William forest park.
I’ve booked sites H&I which will allow up to 10 people per site and will keep us under the Virginia state restrictions of group size.
